Astrocartography chart and map calculator

An astrocartography chart maps a birth chart onto the Earth. Each line marks the places where one planet was rising (Ascendant), setting (Descendant), culminating (Midheaven) or at its lowest point (IC) at the moment of birth. The map draws 44 lines, four each for the Sun, the Moon, Mercury to Pluto and the North Node, computed in mundo with NASA/JPL-grade ephemeris data.

How to use the astrocartography map

  1. Press the chart’s title, enter the place, date and time of birth and press Update. Without an account, re-casts are limited; past the limit, Update asks you to create one.
  2. Every line has a badge with its planet and angle. Hover or click a line to highlight it, then zoom in to see the places it crosses.
  3. Switch the map from Global to Local for Local Space, where each planet becomes a direction from the birth place.

Astrocartography line meanings: the four angles

  • ASC line: the planet was rising. It shows in how you come across and in new beginnings.
  • DSC line: the planet was setting. It acts through partners, clients and the people you meet.
  • MC line: the planet was at its highest. It shows in career and reputation.
  • IC line: the planet was at its lowest point. It acts on home, family and roots.

What each planet line means

The planet sets the theme of its four lines, and the angle says where in life it shows.

Astrocartography lines for love, career and home

A city rarely sits on a single line, and Saturn, Mars and Pluto lines are traditionally read as more demanding. The map shows which planets a place brings forward; choosing between places is up to you.

  • Relationships: Venus lines and any planet on the Descendant.
  • Career: Sun and Jupiter lines and any planet on the Midheaven.
  • Home: Moon lines and any planet on the IC.

How to read astrocartography lines

Near a line, that planet is on an angle of your chart relocated to that place, which traditional astrology reads as strong; the closer the place, the stronger the line. Distance is measured in degrees of longitude, about 111 km at the equator but about 56 km at 60° latitude, so no single distance works everywhere.

Astrocartography terms and meanings

The map uses a handful of terms, and each one names a single idea.

Astrocartography terms
TermMeaning
AstrocartographyThe birth chart’s four angles mapped onto the Earth, one line per planet and angle.
AstromapAnother name for the same map. AstroProcessor calls it Astromap.
ASC and DSC linesWhere the planet was rising or setting at the moment of birth.
MC and IC linesWhere the planet was culminating or at its lowest point.
In mundoLines drawn from the planet’s real place in the sky, its latitude included, rather than from its zodiac degree alone.
Angular planetA planet on the Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven or IC, read as strong.
Local SpaceLines from the birth place toward each planet’s compass bearing at birth, and the opposite way.
Relocation chartThe birth chart recast for another place: the same planets, new houses and angles.

Local Space astrology

Local Space gives each planet two lines from the birth place, one toward its compass bearing at that moment and one opposite: 22 lines in all. They are read as directions to travel.

Relocation charts

A relocation chart keeps the moment of birth and changes the place: the planets stay on their birth degrees while houses and angles are recalculated. With an account, save your chart, switch the map to Relocation and add places.

Frequently asked questions

What does the astrocartography calculator include?

AstroProcessor draws 44 planetary lines and a Local Space map. It opens on the current moment. Without an account, re-casts are limited; an account saves your chart and adds relocation places.

Do I need an exact birth time?

Yes. Every line depends on the angles, so a chart without a birth time has no map. A birth time four minutes off moves every line by one degree of longitude, about 111 km at the equator.

How close to a line do I need to be?

There is no universal distance. Closeness is measured in degrees of longitude, about 111 km at the equator but about 56 km at 60° latitude. The closer the place, the more strongly the line is read.

What is the best astrocartography line?

None in general. The map shows which planet each place brings forward; which line suits you depends on what you are looking for: love, career or home.

What is Local Space?

A second way to map the chart, under Local on the map. Each planet becomes a direction from the birth place: the compass bearing it stood in at birth, and the opposite one.

What is the difference between an astrocartography map and a relocation chart?

The map shows the whole world at once, as lines. A relocation chart takes one place and recasts the full chart there, with its own houses and angles.

Is an astromap the same as an astrocartography chart?

Yes. Both names mean the same map. In AstroProcessor it is called Astromap.

Do I need an account to see my astrocartography map?

No. The map, with its 44 lines and Local Space, opens without an account. Re-casts are limited without one, and relocation places need an account.

How does astrocartography help choose where to live?

It shows what each place brings forward, line by line: Venus lines for love, the Midheaven for career, the IC for home. AstroProcessor ranks no places; the choice between them stays yours.
