The Moon is not void of course now. The next void begins on 7 Nov, 13:19 UTC.

What void of course means

The Moon is void of course once she has finished her last aspect to a planet in the sign she is crossing and will make no other before she leaves it. Until she enters the next sign, she is out of contact.

In horary, a question asked under a void Moon is traditionally judged to come to nothing; in electional astrology it is a stretch to avoid for beginning anything you want to see through. Tradition makes an exception of four signs, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius and Pisces, in which a void Moon is said to still perform somewhat.

How this calendar decides

The aspects that count are the five majors, conjunction, sextile, square, trine and opposition, made to the other six traditional planets: the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Aspects to Uranus, Neptune and Pluto do not count, and an aspect counts only if it is exact while the Moon is still in the sign.

The void begins the moment the last of those aspects is exact, because from then on the Moon is separating, and a separating aspect does not keep her engaged. It ends the moment she enters the next sign. If she makes no such aspect at all while crossing a sign, she is void for the whole sign, and the void runs on from the one before it.

This is the traditional definition, as William Lilly gives it in Christian Astrology (1647). Every moment is solved from the Swiss Ephemeris, built on NASA JPL’s DE431, rather than read off a table of daily positions. The calendar runs from 2025 to 2124.

Why another calendar can differ

Most calendars use the same rule, so most voids here match theirs. The difference is usually the planets: this calendar counts the seven traditional planets only, so an aspect to Uranus, Neptune or Pluto does not keep the Moon engaged, and a calendar that counts the outer planets starts some voids later. Calendars that count minor aspects differ the same way.

By this rule the Moon is void before every sign change, every two or three days: about 160 times a year. A typical void lasts about nine hours; they run from under a minute to about two and a half days, and together they take up about a fifth of the time.
